"On the mountains you learn to rest by toiling."
    Anonymous from Bergamo

A journey into the awareness of going to the mountains, into the inner and outer balance, into the ability to remain in the "Here and Now" while our body proceeds in union with nature. Walking, climbing... the form does not matter and does not change the content.

Tai Chi Shan, the Mountain of Balance is just this. Not a simple book, but a distillate to be savored page after page, where the experience and passion of a remarkable and original mountaineer find a common thread in the principles of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, to recover that ancestral and profound meaning that, often unconsciously, we seek in the mountains.
With great skill and fluidity, seasoned with episodes of real life and his very pleasant irony, Popi guides us in the knowledge of this magnificent discipline: its principles, its techniques and the exercises that we can use in our activity as climbers, hikers or mountain practitioners. Powerful tools and countless food for thought, which like torrents flow along the reading, while the wonderful photos collected during an entire life catapult us beyond the pages of this book. For those who love the mountains and the activities that characterize them, this is a book to read and to have, to learn to go beyond, inside and outside of ourselves.

Giuseppe Popi Miotti was born in Sondrio in 1954, and discovered the Mountain at a very young age. After a period as a mineral prospector, a student of two of the major exponents of this passion, he devoted himself to Mountaineering. In the 70s of the twentieth century he was among the historical exponents of the Nuovo Mattino, a member of the Sassisti di Sondrio. He has always sought completeness on every terrain, ranging from Bouldering to winter climbs and preferring the exploratory aspects of mountaineering with the opening of many new routes. He was an Alpine Guide and gave his professionalism a broader vision, contemplating every kind of activity as long as it was exclusively linked to the Mountain, with the greatest possible respect for its environment and its history. With the new millennium he began to practice Tai Chi and Qi Gong under the guidance of various teachers, deepening his study more and more. He achieved the title of black belt and from the distillation of his experiences this book was born. However, he continues to frequent peaks and walls and to work faithful to his professional line.
