Let’s do a test, when you are climbing a route at your limit:
Do you get frustrated when things don’t go the way you want or expect?
    Do you hold your breath?
Do you believe that falling is not part of the climbing process?
Do you linger on what you think is impossible or that you are not capable of doing?
Do you commit hesitantly and uncertainly when you find yourself at the crux?
Do you resist the flight, integrate where it is not necessary, tighten too much, pull the quickdraws?
Are you in a hurry, would you like to be beyond the crux, at the top of the route and think that the effort is over?

Answering “yes” to even one of these questions indicates that you are not using your attention to the best of your ability, as a warrior would. Read this book. If you dedicate yourself to the mental effort of adopting the warrior method, your awareness will increase exponentially. No matter how imperfect your approach, your awareness will grow anyway. You will be amazed by the magnitude of the results.
Awareness is the key to starting any process and solving any problem. You will notice significant changes in your approach, your mindset, the way you climb and the fun you will have doing it. New in this second edition are the lessons on how to deal with the risk of a climb: Awareness - Risk Assessment - Pause Management - Fall Management - Action Management with practical examples and an exercise chapter. In addition of course to the new layout and renewed images.

Arno Ilgner began climbing in 1973, and since then has made several significant ascents in the United States, Canada, France and Korea. Some of his most notable achievements are the first ascent of a route on the East Face of Cloud Peak in Wyoming; the free ascent of Glass Menagerie on the North Face of Glass Rock and numerous ascents on Whitesides Mountain in North Carolina. Arno has developed the Rock Warrior’s Way mental training over a decade, working with hundreds of students. He also teaches movement-specific classes that help improve balance and performance efficiency. He lives with his family in Tennessee and teaches primarily in the Southeastern states, but travels to other areas of the US to teach classes and give presentations. Climbers from many states, even far away, have attended his classes: Canada, California, Florida and New York. He has recently begun working with young climbers in the pre-competition category.
