Fifth edition of the Ossola Rock guidebook, this time divided into two separate volumes for short and long routes. This guide to the crags addresses the significant increase in climbing sites in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region.
Among the many new additions are crags like Torraccia, Castello al Passet, and Cascata, major extensions of classic crags like Ponte Romano, and new trad climbing areas such as Ossolandia, offering an alternative to the well-known Yosesigo and Cadarese.
The classics of Macugnaga, Sempione, Croveo, Formazza, and Vigezzo are also included, along with the revival of forgotten sectors now revamped.
Everything has been completely rewritten, enriched with new photos, and reorganized for easy use. Both guides also include a German version, as this rock-rich region has long been an internationally appreciated climbing destination.Enrico Serino discovered mountaineering and free climbing in the mid-eighties and made it a lifestyle.
At a very young age he started with self-taught techniques and began to climb the walls and peaks of the Alps. At 16 he attended a CAI course, and since the mid-90s he has been a national free climbing instructor.
He has hundreds of climbs on 4000 meters and ice falls to his credit, but long routes on rock are perhaps his favorite terrain. From Novara he moved to Edolo for study and work, then to Valsesia, to Simplon Dorf where he worked as a cheesemaker for seven years, then to Valle Vigezzo to always have the Ossola mountains at hand. He has made numerous exploratory or “essential” climbs without leaving any obvious traces, often free solo. Lately he has devoted himself more to the difficulties of the cliffs and to a few openings here and there.
In his career as a writer he has published several works on the mountains with an alternative approach, including novels, short stories, a transversal guide on the Simplon and a specific one on the Ossola cracks. -
