  • The region of Lombardy is a vast territory for free riding and still relatively unknown.
Ski resorts which have by now become reference points for many skiers and generations  of ski mountaineers also contain treasures of the highest level even for the fiercest of  riders.
This guide book is the first brick, the first step, in fact the first turn, to discover and appreciate these tracks.

“Free riding embraces a life style, a philosophy, positive thinking. Free riding means loving the mountains, wanting to get to know them, learning to respect them.”

50 itineraries are described here as well as many variants from Madesimo to Tonale.
Each descent has a table included with summaries of the main technical characteristics as well as many colour photographs with uphill itineraries and descents marked.

Giuliano Bordoni (Grosio, 1981) is an extrovert and exuberant mountain guide, both poetic and romantic. Over the years he has climbed the most fascinating and difficult ice falls in the Alps opening many new itineraries. He has also travelled to Alberta in Canada, the Rocky Mountains as well as to Norway. He has also opened new itineraries on rock. Lately he has gone back to his first great passion: freeriding, bringing to it his curious child-like and explorer’s attitude. He has in fact opened some steep descents in the Ortles-Cevedale group and on the Rhaetian Alps. He has travelled to British Columbia and over the Lyngen Alps in Norway in search of his much loved powder snow. His motto is: “Living the mountains with the professionalism of a guide, but with the eyes and soul of a child.”

Paolo Marazzi (Como 1989). He used to be active in athletics and swimming before his dazzling encounter with the mountains. Thanks to his brother Alberto he approaches climbing and hard grit. At the age of 17 he starts to read magazines about off-piste skiing and from there he only needs to take a short step forward: that same winter he buys his first fat skis. 86mm under his feet! He feels he has discovered gold, but off-piste skiing for him is only a taste of things to come.  Encouraged by his brother, he tries telemarking and never gives it up. Now he only skis on telemark skis, he hardly climbs any more since he manages to ski even in summer, usually on ski slopes and not in deep powder snow. Currently he is studying Viticulture and Enology at the University of Milan.
