In the 90s, a time of experimentation with new training methods, Calisthenics made its majestic appearance: a free body style that combined the hardness of artistic gymnastics with the spectacular and scenographic Street Workout, in which the goal is the maximum expression of strength in skills. The first national meeting took place in Turin in 2013 and the following year there was the first course for instructors. Calisthenics quickly established itself on the world scene as the most effective free body workout ever, with an incredibly specialized methodology and an extremely wide platform of exercises, and as an ingredient and catalyst of all the fact that it is a lot of fun. Gianluca Furiozzi was the first to conceive a format to combine Calisthenics and preparatory climbing equipment work, spending 4 years between tests and training to choose and select the skills and the various combinations useful for the purpose, and then put them down in black and white in this manual. There will certainly be further developments on the subject in the future, but without a shadow of a doubt the indications given in this manual are, in some ways, certainly useful for a vast public of climbers who want to immediately set up a sporting life that aims at longevity together with performance.
Gianluca Satyam Furiozzi, born in 1965, has practiced sports since the age of 6, focusing in adulthood on Nordic skiing and ski mountaineering, windsurfing, free body and bodybuilding. In 1984 at the Compagnia Alpini Paracadutisti in Bolzano, where he performed his military service, in addition to mountain launching, he participated in all the internal Nato ski mountaineering competitions with numerous team victories. After finishing his military service, after a few years spent mainly training for mountain running, he began, despite his not particularly suitable physical structure, to climb on cliffs with excellent results, and then discovered bouldering, which he immediately fell in love with. In 2011, calisthenics arrived and Gianluca began to take an interest in new training methodologies, and obtained the qualification of Suspension Training Instructor. It was the beginning of the discovery of a highly specialized world, where nothing is left to chance and everything is set up with a very precise method: in short, what was missing in climbing! Today Gianluca teaches climbing and calisthenics between Turin and Tenerife.
