This second edition of A Sud testifies that in eight years climbing in southern Italy has developed considerably and has also become an important attraction for sports tourism in harmony with the environment. The number of crags has almost doubled as have the number of itineraries for many of them. Restyling and maintenance works have begun and in many areas the public administrations have begun to understand the potential that this activity holds.
The area examined has also been expanded, including Molise with its cliffs including the stupendous Frosolone. Due to the vastness of the territory concerned, only the areas with a fairly active attendance have been treated in order to guarantee a certain maintenance of the itineraries and their development. The authors have also included stories, testimonials and personal contributions or those of climbers who have experienced and valued climbing in the area.
Graziano Montel, a non-practicing agronomist from Puglia, abandoned the genetics laboratories to devote himself almost entirely to climbing. Instructor and Federal Route Designer (FASI), born far from the most famous climbing places, he passionately created not only routes but entire cliffs, discovered boulder areas, opened classic and mixed itineraries, thus enhancing the rocks of his home and neighboring regions.
The management of a web shop allows him to have a lot of time to devote to the development of both indoor and integrated climbing in the environmental tourist heritage of Southern Italy; if he doesn’t answer right away, forgive him, he’s definitely attached to some wall.

Pietro Radassao, born in Campobasso in 1995, has been practicing sport climbing intensely for several years and, despite his very young age, is already considered a point of reference for Molise. In two years of activity at the crag, he raised the level of Molise climbing from 7c to 8b + worked, also making the first ascents by a Molise of 7c and 8a routes on sight.
Together with the L’Arpiglio Association, he dedicates all his strength to the enhancement of the crags near his home. If sport climbing in Molise is experiencing a period of very rapid expansion, it is above all thanks to the passion and energy of this group.
